There is an estimated 31,462 homeless individuals and families homeless in Florida. Many more are homeless but too afraid to seek help. Of those homeless, 80% report they are homeless for the first time, 17% report they have a severe mental illness and 13% report they have a substance abuse disorder.
And many more are on the verge of joining this statistic in Florida. Approximately 3.129 million people live in poverty, 23,632 children are in foster care, 21.1% of individuals aged 65 and older are widowed (with some counties reporting up to 31%), 28% of pregnancies were unintended, 106,515 domestic violence crimes were reported with 412,360 nights of emergency shelter were provided, and a significant number of elderly are misplaced and transported to Florida each year (2021-2023).
And so Joy Counts Ministries give not to alleviate but to imitate Christ, to grow his kingdom, and to remind those facing trials to take heart and count it all joy
“For the poor will never cease to be in the land; therefore I command you, saying, ‘You shall freely open your hand to your brother, to your needy and poor in your land ‘” (Deuteronomy 15:11).
